Wing loading calculator

Enter the flying weight, the wingspan and the average chord. Cubic wing loading tells you how the model will feel in the air, whatever its size.

Ready to fly, with battery or fuel.
Tip to tip.
For a tapered wing: (root chord + tip chord) ÷ 2.

How it works

Wing loading is weight divided by wing area. It is easy to work out but unfair between sizes: a big model with the same wing loading as a small one flies much more gently.

Cubic wing loading (WCL) fixes that: weight in ounces ÷ (area in square feet)^1.5. Models with the same WCL feel alike in the air whatever their size.

Rough guide: under 4 gliders and indoor, 4-7 trainers and park flyers, 7-10 sport and aerobatic, 10-13 scale and warbirds, over 13 racers and jets. Higher means faster landings and less forgiving stalls.
